Active Release Technique (ART)
is a manual hands-on therapy treatment that corrects muscular and soft tissue injury or damage to the soft tissue. Soft tissue consists of muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments and the connective tissue that surrounds the muscles, nerves and tendons. The ART method, based on scientific evidence that muscles, nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue develop adhesions in, around and between the muscles after a repetitive injury. Adhesions cause the motion of muscles and joints to be altered compressing nerves, resulting in a wide variety of symptoms that characterize repetitive injury simply known as scar tissue.
ART was developed to correct the repetitive trauma injury and to:
- reduce inflammation and swelling, releasing inflamed or injured nerves, (vasculature and lymphatics)
- re-establish optimal soft tissue texture and function
- eliminate scar tissue
